The world may be getting weary of zombies in general thanks to a glut of movies, TV shows and games, but that hasn’t stopped Dead Island publisher Deep Silver from trying their hand at zombie-themed online multiplayer game.
That effort has taken the form of Dead Island Epidemic – a title that abbreviates cleverly to DIE – which Deep Silver refers to as a “ZOMBA”, or “Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena”. It pits players against one another in a zombie-infested world where they must survive by killing not only the zombies, but each other as well.
Interestingly, it’s not played from a first person perspective like Dead Island was. Instead, it’s a top-down, almost isometric game very much like those other online killfests DOTA 2 and League of Legends.
In case that’s not a combination that makes sense to you right off the bat, you’re not alone. To explain themselves a little better, Deep Silver have released a new trailer giving gamers a bit more detail on what, exactly, they will be doing in the game, and – not coincidentally – why they’ll (hopefully) want to buy it.
While it’s currently in closed beta (sign up here if you’d like to have a chance to take part), when it’s released Dead Island Epidemic will be free to play, with optional characters, weapons and in-game currency available for purchase. Clearly, they’re hoping to lure you in with the free-to-play schpiel and then hook you to the point where you’ll want to spend cash on the game.
