Work in IT? Here’s how to take part in Wits’ annual industry survey

Close your eyes and try to imagine the IT industry in South Africa. What do you see? Is it a half-dead dung beetle crushed by arrogant tourists into the gravel of the Kruger Park, or a mighty lion stalking the continental plains, devouring lesser species as it passes through?

Opinions about the state of the industry – and those who work in it – vary from passionate belief in opportunities, to despair at lack of investment. So what is the truth? Only by measuring it can we find out. Which is why it’s a good idea to encourage all of our readers who work in IT to take part in the annual IT Skills Survey run by Wits University and the Johannesburg Centre for Software Excellence.

From lowly bug hunters in the forgotten lower reaches of the Q&A team, to big decision makers with job titles that begin with the letter C, JCSE wants to know what you’re up, what you’ve learned and – just as important – how you feel about your chosen career in order to put together its annual report, which is essential reading every year.

Are there hidden pockets of excellence in the farthest reaches of the country? There’s only one way to find out.

It’s a national survey, and well worth taking part. Even better, it’s shouldn’t take longer than about 10 minutes to complete. Sign up over here.
