Gmail is now available in Zulu and Afrikaans

Communications for Afrikaans and Zulu speakers just got a bit easier, as webmail giant Google just announced that it’s adding both local languages to its Gmail interface as of today.

Zulu and Afrikaans are two of the most easily accessible South African languages on internet services, you can translate Zulu on WeChat and use both languages on Google Translate and now with the latest Gmail update, you can get all the Gmail menu options and help files in the two tongues too. Obviously you can write your emails any way you see fit, as always.

Gmail announced it has added Zulu and Afrikaans along with 11 other languages including  Armenian, Azerbaijani (Azeri), Chinese (Hong Kong), Canadian French, Galician, Georgian, Khmer, Lao, Mongolian, Nepali and Sinhala to its list of 58 languages it already offers, bringing the total number of supported languages to 71 which – according to Google – covers 94% of the world’s internet population.

“As any native speaker knows, each language has its own nuances, so we worked closely with linguists to make sure the tone and style are just right,” Gmail said.

All 13 new languages are available for web and feature phones. To change your language, head over to settings by clicking the gear icon on the top right, click on “show all language options” in the language section and select enable input tools, you’ll see the drop down list displaying all 71 languages.
