EFF vows to take Motsoeneng to court over permanent SABC COO appointment

The Economic Freedom Fighters have come out guns blazing over the controversial appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as the SABC’s permanent chief operations officer (COO).

The EFF expressed its disapproval in a statement released by the party earlier this afternoon, saying it is “distraught by the announcement made by Minister Faith Muthambi yesterday”.

“The Minister assured South Africans during the Parliamentary Joint Portfolio Committee on Communications and Telecommunications and Postal Services last Friday that she will… ensure that the SABC responds and applies the recommendations of the Public Protector report. Not even a week after making such promises, the Minister defies all odds and appoints Hlaudi Motsoeneng. Either the Minister is weak or intentionally misled the public,” the EFF says, expressing it’s doubt in Muthambi’s competence as communications minister.

The EFF says it will take this matter to court and is confident that a court of law will find Motsoeneng unfit for the COO position.

“This is indeed a sad day in the fight against corruption, for minister Muthambi has condoned lies and fraud in the promotion of Hlaudi Motshoeneng,” the EFF says.
