Joburg COD LAN delivers a tense final

A couple of weeks ago we told you all about the Xbox 360-only Call of Duty: Ghosts LAN being organised by MWEB; this week we can tell you who won.

In the end it all came down to two teams, F34R Adept and Insane Gaming, who worked their way through the elimination stages to face each other on Sunday. The hard-fought final was ultimately won by F34R Adept with a score line of 6-4 that belies just how tense the competition was.

MWEB has a blow-by-blow account of the entire event as well as the final, which you can read here.

F34R Adept walked away with R5 000 worth of Kalahari.com vouchers, while the second- and third-placed teams took home vouchers to the value of R3 000 and R2 000 respectively. Everyone was given plenty of Red Bull merch as well.

On the one hand, it’s great to see locally-organised and sponsored Call of Duty competitions, but on the other it would be nice to see prizes on offer that give the winners more than just over a grand each, especially for a weekend of what is actually rather hard work made up of many tense hours spent competing.

Still, it beats a kick in the pants and you have to start somewhere. I just hope future tournaments will be a little richer for the gamers’ sakes.
