If you find yourself often engaging with certain brands you use or like on social media either through comments, likes, shares, queries etc and like sharing photos on social networks, you might also like Mobilizr, a new social network that lets you engage in campaigns hosted by some of your favourite brands and earn a few bucks just by uploading photos and getting as many likes as you can.

Mobilizr is a Nigerian-based startup which was launched to give brands a platform to engage with their audiences in a slightly different way than they normally would on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Users sign up on the web or through the Mobilizr Android and iOS apps and can participate in any campaign featured on the social network. Users upload a photo according to campaign guidelines and can earn money for like, share, or comment they receive.

The company was founded by Ruke Awaritefe, Onyekachi Izukanne and Michael Ukpong who started Mobilizr as an experiment to explore the possibility of getting all the mobile users they knew to work for them as ‘salesmen’. “We figured that if we armed them with an app that lists product offers from our different clients, we could evolve into a massive sales channel that relies heavily on word-of-mouth and peer-to-peer marketing. Somewhere along the line we figured the same thinking could apply to mobile advertising and brand advocacy, and this – at the moment – is what the Mobilizr platform delivers,” says Awaritefe.

Although the method of giving users cash for their engagement and responses to brands is not a new one, marrying a social media style of engagement with the method is fairly new in digital marketing.

Mobilizr has managed to sign up Samsung as one of its most popular featured brands. Samsung is currently running a campaign where users can win themselves a Galaxy K Zoom smartphone/camera by uploading a group selfie with friends.

How much do you actually earn?

Earning money just from uploading photos sounds just too easy right? While it is infact real, you’re not exactly going to hit the jackpot overnight at just $0.03 per like (that’s around 30c), so you would really have to rack up a good number of support to even reach an amount in the hundreds of rands.

Before you can cash in on the money you have earned, you have to invite at least five friends to join Mobilizr.
