New social network makes use of emojis only

Everybody likes to use the odd emoji every now again, but web developers Matt Gray and Tom Scott took the emoji notion one step further. The pair have created a new social network that only makes use of emojis as a form of communication.

Priding themselves on the fact that no words will ever be used to convey a messages, they state that Emojli is “No words. No spam. Just emoji.”

The social network hasn’t launched yet, but you can reserve a username in the meantime – which of course needs to be in emoji. It will be available for iOS operating systems when it launches, with other platforms like Android to follow soon afterwards.

There is actually very little information on the Emojli website, so it isn’t immediately clear if they will be steering away from the recent emoji discussions. Users of Apple started asking questions about the lack of colour in the emojis used on iOS units, but Mauritius-based Oju Africa quickly moved to fill the gap.

The company developed and released the Oju Emoticon App for Android which lets you insert authentic African emojis into text messages.

“We follow global trends but we are differentiated by our authentic African voice. So as a brand we wanted to do something that only Africa could pull off, something that could become so iconic that it would have the world talking. I believe what we have created will ensure that every African on the planet won’t be able to help but love it,” said Oju Africa’s creative director, Eserick Fouchehe.
