Pre-order bonus missions confirmed as paid DLC for Alien: Isolation

Just as we suspected, Alien: Isolation developer Creative Assembly has confirmed that the bonus preorder missions starring the original Alien cast we reported on yesterday will be made available as paid-for DLC after the game’s launch.

The announcement was made on the Alien: Isolation Facebook page yesterday evening. Someone on the team by the name of “Nee” posted the following:

“It’s genuinely been great to see the reaction to The Crew Expendable and Last Survivor pre-order bonus content we announced yesterday and how excited you all are to re-experience those classic scenes from the original movie with our Alien. It’s been absolutely amazing for us at the Studio.

“However, some of you have been asking if the two pieces of content are only available through pre-order or if we’ll be releasing them at a later date as well. So, I can confirm today that we do plan to release both Crew Expendable and Last Survivor at a later date and we’ll have more details for you guys on that shortly.”

So there you have it. Naturally, no prices were mentioned but this is still good news for gamers curious about the title but who aren’t willing to plunk down for the game until official reviews come in saying whether it’s worth their money or not.

Day One DLC Bad

On the other hand, there is a growing number of gamers dissatisfied with the concept of “Day One DLC” that asks for more money for levels that are already complete, on top of the not-insignificant amount being demanded for the main game. It’s a tactic gaining traction among publishers looking to milk as much cash from gamers as they can, and while we understand that people make and publish games to generate cash, it still feels like double-dipping and it’s no surprise gamers don’t like it.

Still, for the first time in a long time this is DLC I’m actually genuinely looking forward to and don’t mind paying extra for, as it feels like more of a genuine bonus – especially for fans of the first Alien film – than something that should have been in the main game since the events that unfold take place 15 years after the Alien first appears on the Nostromo.

If you’re not still convinced, it’s a fair cop, but I dare you to take a look at the trailer for the bonus missions below without getting just a teensy bit excited at the chance to play one of these iconic movie roles yourself:
