The latest Assassin’s Creed cinematic is gorgeous

I’ve seen a lot of game cinematics in my time, but this one is so beautifully-done that when I first saw it I thought it was a live-action trailer starring real people on real sets. But it isn’t, it’s all just computer graphics. It’s just so amazingly well-done that for a brief second, I was fooled.

The clip shows Assassin’s Creed Unity protagonist Arno racing to rescue a female assassin (an unplayable female assassin) called Elise, who is about to beheaded; the trailer shows him sprinting through the chaos of the Parisian streets, taking a shortcut over rooftops in proper parkour style (thanks, chief parkour officer), wading through the crowd like a beach-goer in low water, taking out two soldiers (spectacularly, I might add) before finally eliminating the officer in charge of the guillotine and freeing Elise.

It’s all done using a combination of full-speed action and stylised slo-mo, and the visuals are nothing short of breathtaking; so much so that it rivals anything that the previous master of cinematics, Blizzard, has done before. That’s high praise indeed.

Crank up the video’s settings to 1080p and sit back and enjoy Ubisoft’s latest punt of its upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, which comes out on the 28th of October for all platforms.
