No Xbox Live Gold needed for EA Access

In a bit of a surprise move from a company not known for its forward-thinking or generosity, Electronic Arts announced its EA Access programme last week that offers gamers subscription-based access to some of the company’s most popular games.

As it’s an Xbox-only programme, some gamers worried that they’d need to also have Xbox Live Gold membership to take advantage of EA Access. Polygon confirmed that this is not the case: all Xbox gamers can subscribe to EA access and download and play FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, Peggle 2 and Madden NFL 25. They can pay $4.99 (R53) a month, or sign up for 12 months for the discounted rate of $29.99 (R320).

It’s only if they want to play those games with other people that they will need an Xbox Live Gold membership, as that is an Xbox Live requirement for multiplayer and has nothing to do with EA.
