SA to take on Egypt in DOTA 2 test

Friday will see the South African DOTA 2 team taking on Egypt in an all-Africa test match according to a press release sent out by Mind Sports South Africa. It’s properly official, too, as it makes use of the IeSF’s Online Test Match System that has been in use since 2013, when South Africa first got involved in DOTA 2 test matches.

If you recall from previous coverage, the IeSF is one of the international bodies that looks after eSports. The last time we participated in test matches against other nations – Romania and Mexico in 2013 – we lost and won respectively, so there is much to play for.

Egypt is, according to the MSSA’s press release, on a crusade to dethrone our guys as the best DOTA 2 team in Africa. They have their work cut out for them as the Protea team is currently ranked 10th in the world, so the competition should be tight.

The test match kicks off at 4pm at MWEB’s “Mcave”, located at its head office in Cape Town. An hour before that, the South African team members will be awarded their national colours for eSports.

The team is captained by Ion Todd (ION), who will lead fellow players Jason Bredberg (Mehcrim), Dylan Henderson (PIXELPUSHA), Saleem Manjoo (SLIMZ) and Timothy van Reenan Mostert (ZEALOT) into (hopefully) victory.
