Samsung to host matric maths and science revision classes at cinemas across SA

Under-priviledged matric learners from various high schools will have the chance to take part in maths and science revision classes hosted by Samsung Africa at cinemas across South Africa.

This is part of Samsung’s annual eduCate initiative, which was launched back in 2011. Over 10 weeks, learners will receive revision tutoring to help them prepare for the upcoming preliminary and final matric exams.

The classes will be facilitated by specialists in each subject who will engage with the learners and every lesson will be broadcast simultaneously to a network of 14 digitised cinemas across all nine provinces. Learners will also receive a workbook or toolkit after each lesson.

“SA’s skills shortages are widely acknowledged as a key factor hindering the achievement of the country’s targeted economic growth. “The reasons for this skills shortage are numerous, complex and often disputed. But what is no longer in dispute is that an increased focus on maths and science studies is to the country’s advantage,” says Kea Modimoeng, public affairs and corporate citizenship manager at Samsung Africa

More than 156 000 learners have taken part in eduCate since its launch.

eduCate forms part of Samsung’s educational initiatives, which include Solar-Powered Internet Schools (SPIS), the Samsung e-Learning Centres and the Samsung Engineering Academy.
