Twitter pulls Bing translations from web and apps

When social networks roll out new features, there’s never really a guarantee that they’ll become popular. We think this may have been the case with Twitter’s Bing translation feature, which has been pulled just after a two month debut.

The feature was added to Twitter’s web and iOS and Android app versions, allowing users to translate tweets in different languages into English by selecting the tweet and clicking on a globe icon. The problem with the feature was that, like with many translation services, translations were often inaccurate.

Although Twitter hasn’t announced that the feature has been pulled, a number of users have picked up that the translate option disappeared just recently.

With more tech companies (such as WeChat and Skype) incorporating the ability to translate text into their services, we’re hoping that Twitter will eventually bring back an improved, more accurate version.
