EA Access open to all Xbox One owners

Game subscription service EA Access is out of beta and has rolled out to all owners of the Xbox One, according to an official press release. If you have an Xbox One, regardless of whether you participate in Microsoft’s invite-only Preview Program not not, you can now subscribe for $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year and get several popular EA games to play as long as your subscription is active.

That’s not particularly relevant to South Africans who have not yet had the chance to buy an Xbox One from local retailers, but it’s good news nonetheless that EA has moved quickly on this and opened their surprisingly generous games-for-a-monthly-fee programme so soon after its initial announcement.

The current line-up of EA Access titles is made up of FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4 and Peggle 2, but these will change as time goes by with new titles being added, according to EA’s official statement. It’s not clear if older titles will be rotated out of the roster like happens with Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription, though. Other benefits of membership include discounts on games and DLC and playing pre-ordered games a day early.

So if you happen to own an Xbox One already but you haven’t yet played any of these games, they can all be yours for R53.24 a month or R319.95 a year at the current exchange rate. It’s also nice to know that when the Xbox becomes available here in September, EA Access will be ready and waiting for local gamers keen to try out their new consoles without shelling out a fortune on games.

If that sounds like something you’d like, and you own an Xbox One, click here to sign up.
