Guess who is winning the console race?

The PlayStation 4 versus the Xbox One debate is almost as heated as the old toilet paper orientation argument (we are all for it hanging over the back, just by the way), but while gamers duke it out over which console is the better one, consumer market research company NPD released the figures for the best-selling consoles in July.

With PlayStation 4 clocking in over 10 million console sales across the world since release, the Japanese electronics company scored a seventh straight month as the top-selling console in the US. The PS4 did launch a couple of months before the Xbox One, but Microsoft’s answer is only at just over five million units by April.

Although the NPD released sales figures for the PS4, Xbox One’s sales are still missing in action. The only statement that Microsoft has issued regarding the matter was “Xbox One continues to sell at a strong and steady pace following the release of the $399 console in June, when month-to-month sales more than doubled.”

According to the NPD, the combined sales total of the PS4 and the Xbox One is about 80% than those for the PS3 and Xbox 360 over the same time period.

One aspect that could have further driven sales for the PS4 console is that fact that the hugely-anticipated The Last of Us Remastered also launched in July and topped US sales charts easily.
