Olympus wants to encourage you to take selfies

Selfies, groufies – they all want you to get into the action of capturing yourself and posting it for the world to see. Camera maker Olympus now also wants to promote the act of selfless selfie-taking, with the release of the PEN Lite E-PL7.

While it might look like just another compact camera, it has a downward-opening touch panel monitor and a dedicated Selfie mode.

“Tilting 180 degrees downward, it enables touch operation for taking photos with the same feel as one has when operating a smartphone. The Selfie mode activates when the monitor is tilted downward, allowing the use of a setting optimized for selfie with just a single touch,” Olympus said in a press statement.

As for the rest of its features, it has 16.05 megapixel Live MOS Sensor similar to the one found on the OM-D E-M5, a TruePic VII image processing engine and 81-point FAST AF, 8 fps high-speed sequential shooting.

“The OI.Share remote shooting functions have likewise evolved, making it possible to easily operate self-timer sequential and selfie interval shooting. This helps users to control the camera’s functions using their own smartphones to which they’re accustomed, and take selfies with rich variations of movements and expressions.”
