iPhone 6 to be announced on 9th of September

Hold on to your hats, as there are very strong suggestions that Apple’s next iPhone will be unveiled to the world on the 9th of September.

While there have been many rumours about a release date in the past, Apple declined to comment on Re/Code’s article – which first broke the news. “Apple has scheduled a big media event for Tuesday, Sept. 9 — a date to which Apple numerologists will strain to attribute significance. As with September events past, the focal point of this one is to be Apple’s next-generation iPhones,” it wrote.

Citing “a person familiar with the plans” both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal lead with the news, stating that the technology giant will unveil a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch smartphone. Apple has already asked its manufacturers to produce between 70 million and 80 million units in anticipation of the launch.

While it is completely plausible that the new iPhone 6 will indeed be announced, whether it will get a solid release date for this year is still under question. Late last month there were rumours floating about that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 may be pushed back to a 2015 release window.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple is facing a number of production issues with the upcoming 4.7-inch version, which will likely cause the shift in the release date.

The company also filed a patent for a “Wrist-worn electronic device and methods therefor” last year, which has many speculating it to be the mythical iWatch.
