FNB’s new tablet offer is just R99 a month

There’s a new option for you to get your hands on a low-cost tablet as FNB and Lenovo have joined forces to offer the 7 inch Lenovo IdeaPad A3000 tablet for just R99 a month through the FNB Smart Devices offering to qualifying cheque account customers.

The Lenovo A3000 runs on the now 20 month old version 4.2 of Android which, while not ideal, is still a very good version of the operating system and is not missing much functionality from the latest available versions. Hardware wise the Lenovo A3000 runs on a quad core 1.2GHz Mediatek processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of available storage which can be increased by up to 64GB with a microSD card. +The A3000 uses a 7 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 600×1 024 which may not challenge the like of the Retina iPad Mini for clarity, but will be more than sufficient for most users. With a 3 500mAh battery there should be enough juice to keep the tablet running for the average work day, but until we get the chance to test the tablet we’re just using our experience to judge on that.

“Smartphone and tablet penetration is increasing rapidly in South Africa and it is important that as a leader in digital banking, we do our part to make this happen so that more people have access to the devices and technology that enables them to bank digitally,” said Kartik Mistry, head of smart services at FNB.

“The addition of the Lenovo Ideatab to our device range means that for less than the cost of dinner and a movie, customers can now own a device that enables them to bank digitally; use as a learning tool; or for their gaming and entertainment needs.”

The Lenovo A3000 tablet normally retails for R1 799 with the price over 24 months from FNB coming in at R2 376, or R577 more expensive; however for the extra money the tablet comes with a protective cover, a two-year collect and return warranty as well as a SIM card that FNB offers with all smart devices that offers between 1000MB and 500MB of free monthly data through Cell C dependant on the eBucks reward level of the customer. That last one is particularly useful considering the 3G capability of the tablet.
