Original Bioshock coming to iPhones, iPads

After successfully porting XCOM: Enemy Unknown to Apple’s iOS, Bioshock publisher 2K is in the process of doing the same with the 2007 smash-hit. They haven’t confirmed availability or pricing, but Polygon reports that 2K’s Ben Holschuh, production assistant on the game, said the original Bioshock would be coming later this summer (our winter) and would be sell for a “premium” price.

It’s more than just a simple port, however: Bioshock for iPad and iPhones will come with support for Bluetooth controllers as well, so you won’t be limited to using touch controls to get around.

While the storyline and setting of the iOS game is an exact duplication of that of the original PC game, some concessions had to be made to get the game within Apple’s 2GB limit. As a result, there is no fog or shadows but the game still manages to look fantastic, according to Polygon.

Other concessions include a bigger “hit box” and easier aiming, things that needed to be added to make the game more playable using touch controls. But since it supports Bluetooth controllers as well, there’s no need to get bogged down by touch controls; that also makes it feel like you’re not playing the game on a tablet.

Since “summer” is almost over and “fall” approaches, it’s not unreasonable to think that the Bioshock iOS port will be on sale before the end of August. Lastly, the XCOM: Enemy Unknown iOS port sold for $19.99 so we expect Bioshock to cost around the same.
