Web Africa offers Google Glass as prize for heavy downloaders

Bandwidth and capacity in South Africa is a bit of a scarce commodity, but internet provider Web Africa wants you to download as much as you possibly can on their network – if you can tip the scales as the king of downloaders, you can walk away with a brand new pair of Google Glasses.

If you are a subscriber to Web Africa, you simply have to download 50GB or more to come in contention for the prize, but naturally the more to you download the more entries you get.

“Anyone who uses more than 50 gigs during Download Plus hours in September will automatically be entered into the draw but for those who really want a pair we are offering you the chance to get additional entries,” the ISP explained. There are various tiers of downloading prowess, but if you top the 1TB for the month, you will get four entries.

“All you need to do is to use at least 50 gigs of data in total by the end of September and we will give you 1 entry into our draw. The more you use the more entries you will get. So make sure you get busy between midnight and 6am any day, every day, throughout September and remember all the gigs are on us, for free!”

At the time of writing, the leading downloader has already clocked 90.84GB, while second place is 57.96GB, and number three is hot on his heels with 54.09GB.

The competition comes after Web Africa launched its free 50 terabytes data promotion in August, which gave all of its users 50GB for free to do with as they pleased from an unshaped data connection between midnight and 6am.

The promotion also had a prize attached to it – a new Macbook Air for whoever could download the most data in August.
