105-inch bendable UHD television Samsung’s big gamble

Just when you thought televisions couldn’t get any better (or more ridiculous), Samsung pulls a fast on out of the bag.

Earlier this year they announced a 105-inch curved television for around $120 000, but now the company has unveiled a 105-inch UHD, bendable TV.

In case you were wondering why it’s not curved, well… it bends, so you can curve it to any angle that you want. It has an aspect ratio of 21:9 and when it’s fully curved it has a curvature of 4200R.

“We’re at the helm of a new era in TV viewing – an era driven by the curve: a simple yet powerful design ethos that greatly enhances the viewing and overall sensory experience,” said HyunSuk Kim, executive vice president of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, in a press statement.

If the curved version of the television was retailing for $120 000, we don’t want to know what this one will be priced at… but we’ll just have to wait a bit longer for pricing details as Samsung couldn’t confirm any of that.

“The Samsung Bendable UHD TV seamlessly goes from flat to curved, allowing users to decide how they want to watch TV – on a flat or curved panel – for an optimised viewing experience. It also offers UHD Dimming and UHD Upscaling for more detailed picture optimization, reduction of light diffusion and enhanced contrast for incredible picture quality,” it explained.

Samsung Curved TV

Samsung, as well as other television manufacturers, have been pushing incredibly hard to get curved television on to the market as quickly possible. At IFA this year, Samsung alone revealed 17 curved TVs in FHD, UHD and LED formats.

“IFA 2014 marks an exciting time to share the power of the curve with the world to bring the Curved TV into the mainstream and highlight its impact on the household viewing experience and TV market as a whole.”
