Slo-mo AC: Unity trailer shows off co-op goodness

Looking at the latest video from Assassin’s Creed: Unity, it’s hard to tell if this is a game or a music video featuring 18th century thugs beating up, stabbing and otherwise dispatching anyone who gets in their way in slow motion.

It’s undeniably cool, of course, but it occurs to me that someone on the team might be using the game as a vehicle for their true love: music videos.

Ubisoft is clearly savouring the opportunities made possible by Unity’s beautiful graphics engine, since the trailer itself is absolutely gorgeous, and shows off some of the highlights of co-op assassinning – strength in brotherhood, and all that.

It’s so good I don’t even mind that it could totally be its own music video MTV would have been happy to show in the days when it was actually a television channel for music.

The fact that the trailer is mostly in slo-mo adds a layer of sophistication, and the song choice – Pistols at Dawn by Seinabo Sey – fits the slowed-down action surprisingly well.

The prospect of working with other players on assassinations in AC: Unity has had me intrigued from the start, and I can’t help but be impressed by how good this video makes it look. I also like that AC5 doesn’t shy away from showing assassins stabbing people in the face. Literally.

That means the trailer is actually quite violent, but it’s just video game violence and we all know that’s not real. Right?

Assassin’s Creed: Unity is out on the 14th of November for PC, Xbox One and PlaySation 4.
