More African countries get Google Maps support

Technology has gotten us out of a pinch more than once, but now nine other African countries will also be able to find their way around in the dark.

Google announced that it has started support for a whole host of new nations for Google Maps, one of the most-used navigational tools on smartphones.

It should be pointed out that Google hasn’t listed limited functionality for any of the African countries, so if you live there planning to travel to one of them in the near future, you should be able to get navigation while driving, walking or cycling.

The African countries that will now be able to navigate their way to publicly listed places are:

  • Angola
  • Botswana
  • Malawi
  • Mali
  • Madagascar
  • Mauritius
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Tanzania

And just in case you are up for a little adventure, Google has added the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx to its hugely-entertaining Street View imagery, as well as a host of other tourist attraction in Egypt.

“Today, it looms large in our imagination as the home of Cleopatra, Ptolemy, Tutankhamun, people who worshipped cats as gods and buried their embalmed dead in tombs filled with treasures and sustenance for the afterlife. Now the Egypt of your imagination can be brought to life with new Street View imagery in Google Maps, and you can take a virtual walk among the stunning monuments and rich history of this ancient civilization,” Google wrote on their blog.
