Destiny players rejoice, for patch 1.0.2 is live. It delivers on the promises Bungie made in the last week to address the issues that led to players shooting at loot caves rather than playing the game.

To entice players back into actually playing the strike missions, Crucible matches and Daily and Weekly Heroic Missions, loot drops in 1.0.2 have been tweaked to be more consistent, rewarding and predictable.

But more than that, the patch changed the Crytparch from the issuer of disappointment and into something a lot less douchey: the element of randomness that sometimes led to blue (Rare) and purple (Legendary) Engrams decoding into uncommon items has been fixed, and now engrams decode into items of the same colour- or better. So no more picking up a Legendary engram and seeing it become a pair of worthless gloves.

The only downside of the patch is that it has turned all Legendary engrams that you have in your inventory before the patch is installed into Blue engrams, but honestly that’s a small price to pay for more predictable loot.

Can I get a “Hell yeah!”?

Here are the full patch notes:

Destiny patch 1.0.2

Cryptarch:

Legendary (purple) engrams will always produce a Legendary quality item or higher
Note: Legendary engrams that exist in your inventory will change to Rare quality items when the patch is applied. However, decoding these engrams will still produce the same results as before
Rare (blue) engrams will always produce a Rare quality item or higher
Chance for Legendary gear increased
Materials: Ascendant Shards and Ascendant Energy promoted to Legendary quality (from Rare quality)

Crucible:

Reduced time limit on Bastion and First Light in Control and Clash from 15 to 12 minutes, bringing them in line with non-vehicle maps in those playlists
Lowered weighting on Bastion and First Light in Control and Clash so they appear less often in those playlists

Rewards:

Rare (Blue) and Legendary (Purple) Engram drops added to the potential rewards for:
Vanguard: Tiger Strike Playlist
Daily Heroic Missions (first time per day)
Weekly Heroic Missions (first time per week)

Known issues

When selecting a higher difficulty for daily missions, XP Bonus not show in the reward display. You will still get the XP bonus, you just won’t see it in the UI

Deon got his first taste of PC gaming at the tender age of 11 when his father bought an 8088 XT, ostensibly to "help him with his homework". Instead, it introduced him to Leisure Suit Larry, King Graham, Sonny Bonds and many more, and Deon has been a PC gamer and hardware enthusiast ever since. He landed his first professional writing gig in 2006 at a prestigious local PC magazine, a very happy happenstance as he got to write for a living about things he loves - tech, PCs, gaming, and everything in between. He's been writing about it all ever since, and loves every minute of it.
