There’s so much to see at rAge 2014

If you’ve been thinking of giving rAge a skip this year, I’m writing this post to hopefully convince you not to.

Honestly, there is so much to see and do at rAge that if you’re a gamer you’ll kick yourself for missing out on the chance to see – and also play – just about every major game that’s coming up for release. Walking around the show floor today, I saw most of the big local distributors showing off their newly-released and upcoming blockbuster games with huge, elaborate stands that offered up multiple “play stations” where anyone could spend a bit of time with those games.

Here’s a quick list of games that are totally playable in some form at rAge 2014:

  • The Order 1886
  • DriveClub
  • The Crew
  • Alien: Isolation
  • Dying Light
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Singstar: Ultimate Party
  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
  • The Evil Within
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • Assassin’s Creed: Unity
  • Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (the previous-gen AC game that stars a Templar!)
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Destiny
  • Evolve
  • Far Cry 4

The Witcher 3 is also there, but it’s not playable. Instead, it is shown off on the rAge stage where viewers are shown some pretty cool gameplay footage of Geralt on a quest. It’s on several times throughout the day, and don’t worry, there is no nudity or swearing… that stuff’s strictly been left out for the presentation (but will most assuredly be in the final game!). You do see some cool combat moves and the game’s drop-dead-gorgeous open world scenery, though.

There’s also Skylanders and Disney Infinity 2.0 for the kids, places to buy cool comic book stuff and collectibles, as well as a few bargains to be had at the handful of IT retailers who’ve set up shop at the Dome for the weekend.

I also had the pleasure of bumping into Chris Bischoff, the man behind the beautiful 2D point and click adventure game I helped Kickstart back in 2013, Stasis. What a nice guy! He was showing off the game in its current form, and I must say it’s looking mighty good indeed!

Saturday promises to be the biggest day of the three, with tons of cosplayers descending on the Dome decked out as their favourite characters. Giveaways, goodie bags and other crowd-pleasers are lined up to feed the gaming hunger of the masses.

I’ve been doing rAge professionally since 2006, and honestly this year’s show is by far the most exciting one I’ve been to as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both here now, and industry players are getting down to the business of showing off exactly what both have to offer. And that’s a lot. You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you miss it.

If you can’t make it, maybe Charlie’s awesome gallery of rAge photos will help with the FOMO.

See you there!
