Celebrate Ada Lovelace Day with others around the world tomorrow

Every year, Ada Lovelace Day is celebrated with various events are held around the world to highlight the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in honour of Lovelace, a women considered to be one of the first female programmers.

Lovelace was a leading 19th century English mathematician who worked alongside Professor Charles Babbage on the first general-purpose computer called the Analytical Engine and wrote a number of early ‘computer programmes’.

Founded in 2010 by Suw Charman-Anderson, a freelance journalist and social technologist in the UK, Ada Lovelace Day will this year host a live flagship show in London featuring performances and talks by women in the UK STEM and arts fields as well as an event for schools where these women will give talks to young boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 16.

Those outside the UK borders are encouraged to take part in the Ada Lovelace Day celebrations by writing something about a woman, or women, in STEM whose achievements they admire and submitting it the Ada Lovelace Day website where it may be featured alongside posts by other women and girls around the world.
