Apple accidentally outs iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2

Yesterday, Apple updated its iPad User Guide for iOS 8 that’s available through iTunes, and in so doing accidentally revealed details on two as-yet-unannounced iPads, a full-sized one presumed to be the iPad Air 2 and a smaller one that’s likely the iPad mini 3. The updated pages were later taken down.

The official announcement however, is planned for later tonight at a specially-arranged press event held at Apple’s Cupertino, California headquarters.

The blunder was discovered by the people behind the Apple fansite 9to5Mac, who promptly captured screenshots and uploaded them for the world to see.

Those screenshots show that the two new iPads will get TouchID fingerprint sensors in the Home button, a feature only available to the latest iPhones at present. They also appeared to confirm that the latest version of Apple’s iOS operating system, iOS 8.1, will be out on Thursday alongside the two newest iPads. People who like taking pictures with their tablets may also be happy to hear that the cameras on the new iPads will finally get a ‘Burst mode’, another iPhone-only feature.

Design-wise, 9to5Mac says both iPads appear ‘nearly identical’ to their predecessors, but they will sport a faster A8X processor, the details of which were leaked earlier this month.

Are these tweaks enough to get you excited for a new iPad, or do you think Apple is just gilding the lilly at this point? As always, let us know on the forum.
