First iPhone 6 contract pricing leaked

With the unofficial South African pricing being leaked this morning for Apple’s hotly-anticipated iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, an anonymous source at a prominent South African retailer has revealed to htxt.africa what the starting price for iPhone 6 contracts will be.

According to our source, Vodacom’s Smart S package for the 16GB iPhone 6 will be R499 per month and come with  75 minutes, 200 SMS and 200MB of data per month. Our source says, as would be expected, that the pricing for different iPhone 6 and 6 Plus contracts will be incrementally higher according to the internal storage size of the device and the minutes, text and data allotments bundled with the deal.

htxt.africa contacted Vodacom for comment on the pricing, but at the time of publishing it was not prepared to give comment.

Currently, the cheapest Vodacom package its offering, is the previous generation iPhone 5s 16GB on the Smart S contract for R499, which includes 75 calling minutes, 200 free SMSes, and 200MB data a month. It seems that the entry-level iPhone 6 model will be available on the same deal.

Various other mobile operators such as MTN have already opened the pre-order process to its subscribers, while Vodacom customers will be able to pre-order their devices from 01:00 tomorrow (Friday) morning. According to htxt.africa’s source, Vodacom’s contract pricing is due to see the light of day during the course of tomorrow (17th October 2014), so hopefully then all rumour and speculation will be removed.
