The incoming Fitbit Surge is the ultimate fitness superwatch

Last week Fitbit’s upcoming Charge and Charge HR fitness bands were leaked. Now, it would appear that the company’s upcoming wearables are set to continue with the latest set of leaked images for the Fitbit Surge plastered all over the world wide web.

From the pictures, it looks like the Fitbit Surge will be aiming at the likes of Garmin and TomTom’s running and outdoor exercise monitoring watches with the inclusion of built-in GPS functionality along with the company’s proprietary, continuous PurePulse heart-rate monitoring. Along with location-based distance and pace tracking through the GPS module, the marketing materials state that the Fitbit Surge will be able to also track elevation before spitting out route and split details for analysis afterwards.

And as with all Fitbit products, the Surge it will monitor steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, floors climbed and active minutes with a built in accelerometer which will also do duty as a sleep tracker with vibrating morning alarm like that inside the Jawbone UP24. There will also be basic smartphone interaction with incoming SMS and calls displayed on the screen and media controls built in as well.

The Fitbit Surge will be available in black, slate, and tangerine and will also have customisable watch faces for its display when it finally arrives. As for when that happens, it’s all up to Fitbit now to tell us the date.
