SA’s most innovative tech students to showcase projects at Innovation Evenings

Top tech and engineering students from South Africa’s major universities will, over the next two months, go up against each other to showcase their unique projects and innovations in front of judges and investors at the Tech Expo Africa University Innovation Evening.

The Tech Expo Africa University Innovation Evenings are held every year in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth at the Universities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Wits University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town University of Technology, Durban University of Technology and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

The event gives honours, masters and PhD students the chance to showcase their innovations to their peers, companies and sponsors and potentially secure funding for employment from interested companies.

Ten top projects selected by lecturers from their university’s engineering and computer departments respectively are chosen to take part in the Innovation Evenings and one winner from each institution will be chosen and go on to Top Tech Innovator Awards in March 2015 where the overall winner will be chosen.

Dates and times of each Innovation Evening are as follows:

Johannesburg
22nd November – UJ from 8:00am to 2:00pm – Faculty of Engineering & Built environment (Power , telecommunication , control systems 50-60 engineering students + 80 technology students)
28th November – Wits from 8:00am to 4:00pm – Computer Science Centre
22nd October – UP from 8:00am to 1:00pm – Informatics in the Rautenbach Hall

Cape Town
6th November – Western Cape from 8:00am to 12:00am – Computer Science building
12th November – UCT from 6:00pm to 8:00pm – Mechanical Engineering Department in the Leslie Social Science Building
24th November – CPUT – BTech IT Department

Bloemfontein
23rd October – CUT from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Department of Electric & Computer Engineering
24th October – UFS from 8:30am to 12:00am in the Room 223 Computer Science Building

Durban
30th October – UKZN from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Computer Science Building
17nd October – DUT from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the DB 0004A Information Technology, Block B, Ritson Road Campus, 22 Winterton Walk

Port Elizabeth
30th October – NMMU from 12:0pm to 3:00pm in the Computer Science Building

Sponsors are welcome to join theInnovation Evenings to set up a stall and recruit the top students they may be interested in. Industry specialists can also donate towards a prize and be part of the event. Tickets are available for purchase from Webtickets.
