It’s been two and a half weeks since the latest versions of Apple’s iPads were announced, and local distributor Apple representative Core has just released an official recommended pricing matrix for the iPad Mini 3 and iPad Air 2 in South Africa. The slates start at R5 499 for a WiFi equipped iPad Mini 3 and escalate rather quickly to R11 299 for the fully loaded 128GB iPad Air 2 with both WiFi and cellular connectivity.
There’s still no word on when the new iPads will be available in the country with the communication from the local suppliers just saying that they will be here “Soon”. They will be available from all of the normal retailers including the iStores and Premium Apple re-sellers.
While the iPad Mini 3 remains largely the same with just the addition of a TouchID fingerprint sensor, the iPad Air 2 has undergone a major internal overhaul with it a new Apple made A8X chip created specifically for it with second generation 64-bit architecture, 3 billion transistors, 2.5x faster GPU, a 40 percent faster CPU and a 10-hour battery life.
