Is this the first .joburg/.capetown/.durban site?

So the new global top level domains (gTLDs) went live in South Africa yesterday, allowing companies and individuals to identify themselves online as .joburg, .capetown and .durban web addresses for the first time.

The ZA Central Registry has just released some stats for the first 24 hours of use, which suggest that there are 1 471 .capetown domains registered, 1 112 for .joburg and 781 for .durban. That compares to just under a million .co.zas.

As far as we can tell, however, none of those new gTLDs are actually being used yet – except for one. Congratulations Johannesburg Furniture Removals, or should I say furnitureremovals.joburg. You are the only site so far detected by Google’s search spiders as using one of the three South African city suffixes. If we had a prize, it would be yours.

And if any techies out there are moving house, it would appear that there’s only one place you should call. Or at least, go to for up to three quotes from other suppliers (it’s a comparison site).

Of course, this assumption is based on Google use rather than anyone coming forward and telling us about a new address, so if I’m wrong feel free to add your .joburg, .capetown or .durban site in the comments below.
