Master Chief’s remastered adventures are just around the corner

I must admit to not being the world’s biggest Halo fan. In fact, I’d go so far as to say I don’t see what all the fuss is – it’s a mediocre shooter that got lucky by being the first console FPS with half-way decent multiplayer that somehow convinced gamers to overlook its bland level design, dull shooting mechanic and ugly graphics. Honestly there are, and always have been, better shooters.

But that’s just me – the franchise is undeniably popular and clearly occupies a special place in many gamers’ hearts, otherwise Microsoft wouldn’t be re-mastering Halo one through four for the Xbox One and releasing them as the Master Chief collection.

The collection, which is out on the 11th of November, comes with upgraded graphics, remastered cinematics and over 100 multiplayer maps for series fans to get stuck into… again. That’s a lot of game for the price of just one, and a good starting point for people who’ve not yet tried Halo, or who were, like me, put off by its perceived mediocrity. It’s also a great way to wax nostalgic about the franchise while enjoying prettier graphics.

VG247 reports that Microsoft completely re-did the cut-scenes, maintaining “the spirit of each sequence while being much more dramatic and cinematic thanks to modern techniques”.

Gamers who grab the package also get access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta as well as a digital version of the Halo: Nightfall television series.

The launch trailer does a fantastic job of making even someone like me want to play the Master Chief Collection. Check it out below, and mark the 11th on your calendar.
