Tales from the Borderlands trailer drops, looks amazing

A trailer for the story-driven adventure set in the Borderlands universe has just been released, and it has surprised me by looking like a perfect blend of the Borderlands art style and Telltale Games’ episodic story-telling genius.

It’s set after the events of Borderlands 2, and stars the most hard-working voice actor in videogames, Troy Baker as Rhys, alongside lesser-known but also pretty talented actors Laura Bailey as Fiona, Chris Hardwick as Vaughn, Erin Yvette as Sasha, Dameon Clarke as Handsome Jack. Patrick Warburton of  is probably the highest-profile actor in the bunch, and he plays Rhys’ boss with his typical deep-voiced dead-pan delivery.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this looks pretty cool:

I wasn’t convinced when I first heard about the collaboration. Borderlands is a crazy shooter with a bazillion guns that relies on its over the top action to sell games and Telltale makes slow-paced episodic adventures like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us , but this trailer (via VG247) and its zany characters and Telltale’s creative use of every conceivable Borderlands asset from characters to enemies to settings has me very much looking forward to the game.

The best news is that each episode is only around R55 for PC, Xbox and PlayStation gamers, which is pretty good value in this age of R800+ titles. There will be five episodes in total, which will release every couple of months, and it will also make its way to Android and iOS phones before the end of the year.

The first episode doesn’t have a specific release date, but Telltale has indicated it will get here in Q4 2014, so expect it soon.
