The internet has secured another victory against sexist media after backlash forced Sony to pull an overtly sexual advert from its European YouTube channel.
In a time when scandals like GamerGate are all over social media and female game devs are fearing for their lives, you would think Sony would have learnt a thing or two about how women in gaming are portrayed.
The 49-second ad features a beautiful woman in a white lab coat sitting on a desk and moving around in a sexually suggestive manner, presumably addressing male PS4 gamer, as she tells fans to not be ashamed of being hardcore PS Vita remote players and join her as she does so herself.
“I know you’ve already done it today,” the woman says, “and I bet you really enjoyed yourself. How many times did you do it yesterday? Are you afraid you’re doing it too often? In your bedroom under the blankets, or perhaps you prefer the kitchen?”
Although the ad has been pulled from the Sony YouTube channel, one user managed to pull and post it on his channel, so it’s still up for anyone to watch.
