Thimbleweed Park meets its Kickstarter goal in just six days

Remember that classic point and click adventure Kickstarter I wrote about last week? The one by the minds behind hits like the Monkey Island series and Maniac Mansion?

Well, it met its goal of $375 000… in just six days – this thing is on!

At the time of writing, backers have poured on even more sugar: the current total stands at $393 173, with over 10 000 people getting behind creators Ron Gilbert and Garry Winnick’s proposed throwback to 1980s adventure gaming, Thimbleweed Park.

Gilbert wrote the following on the Kickstarter page:

I don’t think I’ve ever rewritten an update or blog post as much as I have this one. I am at a loss for words. The support has been overwhelming and it’s making us giddy. Before launching this Kickstarter, Gary and I debated endlessly if people would want a game that felt like it was made in 1987. A game made at the beginning of the golden era of point & click adventures. I think we have our answer. All 10,000+ of them.

He added that now it’s on to stretch goals, which were announced on Saturday:

  • $425 000: Translation of the game into German, French, Italian and Spanish.
  • $425 001: German translation to be handled by the same guy who did Monkey Island’s German translation, Boris Schneider-Johne.
  • $525 000: Thimbleweed Park for iOS and Android.
  • $625 000: Full voice acting.

These goals are pretty modest, and given the momentum already gained I’m pretty sure it won’t be a problem to hit all four.

Have you backed it yet? If not, head over to Thimbleweed Park’s Kickstarter page and give these people some more money.

Oh, and the featured image? That’s Winnick and Gilbert doing their happy dance.
