This coming week is probably the best time to be a geek in Gauteng since, well, ever. You’ve got MakerFaire coming up and a couple of really big announcements from us, but it all starts with one of the highlights of the calendar, GeekFest.

This day-long event is happening up at the Ball & All Driving Range and Pub (near the lion park) on Saturday, and includes a Zombie Survival Demonstration, Robowars contest and lots of LARPing about in cosplay no less. It’s going to conclude with showings of two top sci-fi movies on a big outdoor screen too.

Organiser Richard Harman sends word that the plan is to screen Luc Besson’s classic The Fifth Element and Harrison Ford cyborging-em-up Blade Runner some time after the sun goes down. Tickets are available here.
