Robot musicians, body modding biohacks and a pop-up makerspace: full Maker Faire Africa program announced

Want to see a 40 foot robot sculpture, a home made anamatronic orchestra and a group of men turn themselves into cyborgs live on stage? ‘Course you do, which is exactly why you’ll be making your way down to the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre this weekend for Maker Faire Africa.

The whole event is due to take place over two floors of the education centre at Sci-Bono, and includes hackathons sponsored by Standard Bank and Intel (pre-registration required) as well as demonstrations of 3D printing, robotics and biohacking.

An almost complete program of events has been published today over at the Maker Faire Africa site here.

Dozens of local inventors will be showing off their work from the full gamut of maker culture, from intelligent fabric designs, to hacking sensors to traditional crafts.  And you can get involved too – there’s a large space set aside for a pop-up makerspace, where anyone can come and use 3D printers, learn how to program a Raspberry Pi, solder a circuit board and generally find out how to build stuff and repair stuff for pleasure, utility or business.

And best of all, it’s free and suitable for ages. Handy for the start of the school holidays…

htxt.africa is an official media partner of Maker Faire Africa. We’ll be blogging and broadcasting live from Sci-Bono throughout the weekend.
