Twitter improves online abuse reporting process

Abusive tweets and threats on Twitter have been under the spotlight lately and up until now, reporting abusive behaviour has often been tedious because of the long and complicated process of filling out the complaint form on the company’s website. But now Twitter says it’s building a safer service by introducing an improved reporting process.

According to Twitter, the new process is much more mobile-friendly, requires less initial information, and makes it simpler to flag Tweets and accounts for review overall, making it easier for anyone to report abuse that they may have noticed on the service, even if it isn’t directed at them.

Twitter also says it has built better response tools on their side that will help the company review reported Tweets and accounts and get back to complainants quicker.

“We are nowhere near being done making changes in this area,” Twitter said. “In the coming months, you can expect to see additional user controls, further improvements to reporting and new enforcement procedures for abusive accounts. We’ll continue to work hard on these changes in order to improve the experience of people who encounter abuse on Twitter.”
