Giant Instagram logo-esque concept camera from Polaroid finally gets a release date

Polaroid is probably the best-known camera that is able to print out your snaps on-the-go. And back in 2012, the company teased a new camera release, one that will be able to print your pics and turn them into stickers as well.

The idea behind the concept/prototype camera (that looked like a giant Instagram logo) was exactly that: a real life representation of the famous photo sharing smartphone application.

If an Amazon price listing is anything to go by, the Polaroid Socialmatic now finally has an official release date, and will be available from January next year. The camera’s design has moved away from being an Instagram look-alike, but still packs the ability to print your images on-the-go.

“Print 2″x3″ photos instantly on ink-free paper with ZINK Zero Ink printing technology for smudge-proof, water-resistant, and tear-resistant photos,” Polaroid explains on its website.

With this model, Polaroid is trying to recreate the old days of photography by combining it with the technology that included in today’s modern cameras.

“Polaroid Socialmatic combines the nostalgic appeal of vintage Polaroid instant print cameras with the ability to share using the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi and Android interface. No Wi-Fi? Use Bluetooth to pair Polaroid Socialmatic with your mobile device,” it added.

The 14-megapixel front-facing camera model features a 2-megapixel camera at the rear, a 4.5-inch touch screen for all the operations, and 4GB internal storage.
