The top 10 most successful Kickstarter tech projects of 2014

The year 2014 has been interesting if you look at the kinds of crowdfunded projects we’ve discovered on Kickstarter, particularly under the technology belt. From the world’s first full HD 360 degree camera to a musical instrument that converts the energy from playing it into electricity, we’ve seen it all.

Altogether, the top 10 most successful technology projects on the site have racked up $27 349 313 (that’s well over R280 million) with all 10 smashing their funding goals by over 500%.

A team of data journalists have put together a Silk presentation with stats about every single tech Kickstarter that was launched and successfully funded between January and November 2014.

According to the report, tech projects make up the bulk of all successful projects on Kickstarter at 46%. In total, 976 tech projects from 37 countries around the world were successfully funded during that period. Unfortunately South Africa doesn’t feature on the list – Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania are the only African countries that have had successfully funded projects so far this year under the category.
