Xbox One finally outsells the PS4 in the US

For the first time since the current crop of consoles were released, the Xbox One has outsold the PlayStation 4 in the US. It ends a 12 month run by the PS4 which was sparked by the fact that it launched at a cheaper price than the Xbox One, which initially came bundled with the expensive Kinect 2.0 sensor.

In South Africa the PS4 has been available for a little over a year now but with the local launch of the Xbox One console in September, we finally had a choice as to which of the current generations of consoles we could buy.

(A mini price war has also broken out in South Africa in time for the holiday season with a R500 discount first being announced by Microsoft before being matched a few days later by Sony.)

Last year the PlayStation 4 beat the Xbox One in sales through till the end of the year with South African retailers easily selling out of their first allocations of stock within days. Microsoft decided to unbundle the Kinect from the Xbox One in 2014 allowing customers to buy the console without the voice and motion tracking gadgetry and cutting the price by $150 in the States and around R1 700 here at home.

If you’re still in two minds about which of the two consoles you’re looking to get this holiday season then you can always go back to our reviews of the Xbox One and the PS4 to help you make up your mind… or you can be as indecisive as I was and just go out and buy both.
