Show us your makes and win a limited edition Raspberry Pi!

To celebrate the launch of makers.htxt.africa and all the amazing things we have planned for it, we’ve teamed up with the lovely people at RS Components for a rather special competition.

RS have given us a limited edition Raspberry Pi computer to give away. It’s one of only a thousand produced to celebrate the first birthday of the Raspberry Pi, and it comes sealed in a rather nice presentation box with a certificate of authenticity signed by Ebon Upton, founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

It’s built on a coloured PCB and comes with a unique case as well. Blue, apparently, although we haven’t removed the security seals to check. You can read all about it here.

So what do you have to do to win it?

Our new channel, makers.htxt.africa is all about sharing. We want to help create a library of instructional material for makers to use and learn from, and which will hopefully inspire more people to start hacking their world and improving life using whatever materials and electronics they can find around them.

The winning bundle!
The winning bundle!

We want to help encourage people to put their projects online along with detailed build instructions for others to follow and learn from. Thus encouraging the healthy growth of the maker movement in South Africa.

So what we’re asking is this. Send us photos of your project, makes and robot slaves with a rough description of what it is and how you built it. Our favourite one received by the end of February 2015* will win the Pi. Simple. As pie. Or Pi… you get the point.

There is one other thing: We see our role as being able to turn makers’ notes into professionally produced how-tos. So we will ask that we be allowed to produce a guide to building the winning make along with the winner’s details. We’ll also be in touch with other entrants to turn their projects into walkthroughs, but you’ll be able to turn us down if you wish. There’s no filthy rights grab going on here.

Your project can be based on anything that fits the ‘maker’ ethos: electronics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, drones, leatherworking and more – any kind of creative project, we want to hear what you’re up to and turn your personal project into something the world can share.

To enter, you’ll need to send your outline, notes and pictures in an email to info@htxt.co.za with the subject line “Look at my make!” The best idea received by the end of Feb which we can turn into a walkthrough will win the Pi.

Good luck!

*We’re giving you a long time because we know these things take a while…
