Next Assassin’s Creed to be set in Victorian London

Well, that was quick. Information on next year’s Assassin’s Creed has leaked already, and apparently it will be set in Victorian-era London and will come out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC only. The name? Assassin’s Creed: Victory. At the very least that’s the codename the developers are using, the actual name may be different.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier broke the news late last night in a detailed post on the game, saying – among many other things – that it will be out in “Fall 2015″and that there is no 2015 AC for previous-gen in development.

The leak took the form of a seven-minute “target gameplay footage” video that was sent to Kotaku, and while Schreier didn’t post it for all to see, he put up a few stills from the video that look pretty good. Then again, so did Unity before it launched so take that with a pinch of salt.

Here are the most interesting takeaway points:

Once the leak hit the internet, Ubisoft sent out the following statement to various press outlets (but not Kotaku):

It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players.

They couldn’t exactly deny the game’s existence, but naturally they’re not happy about the leak.

Me, I just hope that Ubisoft’s experience with Unity has taught them a thing or two about bug-hunting before release, and that by the time Victory ships it will be in a far more polished state.
