SA teen boys shine at World Robot Olympiad in Russia

Jared Rheeders, Matthew Whyte and Rueben Pretorius, the three teenagers also known as Space Invaders who represented South Africa at the World Robot Olympiad in Russia last month, have made their parents and country proud by coming in fourth place overall in the competition.

The boys competed against 34 other teams from around the world in the Junior High Open Category, showcasing their Delta 3 robot.

Delta 3 is a self-healing 3D printer which is mounted wheels and uses as LEGO EV3 controller as its robo-brain. The idea is that the design can be used in extreme conditions and low gravity – specifically aimed at being used for manufacturing by astronauts on long distance missions in space.
