Where to get your matric results online or via SMS

[UPDATE: Looking for the 2017 matric results? You can find out where to get them in our latest matric results article]

[Original story]

Tonight at 6pm, South Africa will know how the class of 2014 matrics performed in its final exams as minister of basic education, Angie Motshegka, officially announces the academic results. But for over 600 000 matrics around the country there’s still one more day to go before they know if they passed or not when all results are publicly released tomorrow.

While the traditional method of publishing matric results in newspapers is still used, the internet and SMSes are equally good tools to take advantage of as you can get results sent privately and most services are fast and reliable.

Below is a list of such services for learners and parents to use to access academic results. Remember, you need to have your ID and exam number ready as you’ll be prompted to enter both to get access.

Online

  • Eye Witness News and Nedbank:: EWN and Nedbank have teamed up to create a portal on the EWN website listing all names in alphabetical order so you can easily search for your name.
  • Western Cape Education Department: The Western Cape Education Department will have matric results up on its website later on in the day at 3pm.
  • The Department of Basic Education: The department always puts results up on its website, and you’ll be able to access them from as early as 6am.

Note: Some websites crash under all the pressure on the day of the matric results release, so you’ll need to be patient and keep checking or try an alternative method.

SMS/USSD

  • SABC Education: You can have your results sent to you by SABC Education via SMS or USSD, to register on the service, SMS your ID and exam number to 35658 or dial *120*35658#. The USSD service will ask you a number of multiple choice questions before releasing your results per subject. SMSes will cost R3 and USSD rates apply.
  • IOL: IOL also has an SMS service running, just send the word matric and your exam number to 45479. SMS’ costs R1.50.

You can watch the results announcement tonight on eNCA, SABC 1, the SABC News channel and via live streaming on the Department of Basic Education’s website.
