Assassin’s Creed: Unity players get their free apology DLC next week

Dead Kings is the first add-on for Assassin’s Creed: Unity, and when it lands next week it will be free for all owners of the original game, exactly as publisher Ubisoft promised.

The DLC pack adds a few hours of additional story content along with new weapons, equipment, side-missions and collectibles. It continues Arno’s story beyond Unity’s ending, giving players more time with Arno, only this time in a city called Saint Denis with a bunch of patches in place that address the glitches and performance issues that plagued the game at launch in November.

By making Dead Kings completely free, publisher Ubisoft is attempting to win back the faith – and future patronage – of Assassin’s Creed fans who understandably felt burned by the game’s rocky launch.

Eurogamer reports that Season Pass holders will get a choice of one of Ubisoft’s other big-name games instead of Dead Kings which the season pass they paid for already grants them access to. These people can choose from the following games, free of charge:

Dead Kings is out on the 13th of January, so if you own Unity that’s the day to fire up your PC/Xbox One/PS4 and grab the pack or free game from your platform’s marketplace. If you’re still interested, that is.

Having spent considerable time playing the base game with my own share of glitches and crashes that sent me back to the dashboard, I’m very interested to see just how stable and polished Dead Kings is going to be, and whether Ubisoft will nail the Assassin’s Creed feel this time around or if it will just be more of the same. I’m hoping for the former.
