Forza Motorsport 6 announced, Ford’s new GT to star

It was inevitable that another Forza game would be in the works, but who’d have thought it would be coming so soon after number 5? (Not I, gentle readers, not I.)

But that is indeed the case: with Forza 5 and the Xbox One not even 14 months old yet, Microsoft announced Forza Motorsport 6 yesterday at the North American International Motor Show together with Ford. Why Ford? Because the company’s brand-new Ford GT is to grace the game’s cover, and feature prominently in the game.

Happily, the GT is really easy on the eyes as it looks a bit like a Porsche and a Ferrari got away for a night of unbridled passion, producing a love-child of spectacular power and beauty. I’m not the world’s biggest Ford fan, but that GT just looks so good.

Xbox Wire says Forza Motorsport 6 will be another Xbox One exclusive and feature a bunch of other Ford performance cars, including the Shelby GT350 Mustang and the F-150 Raptor.

“Just as Ford has pushed the boundaries of car technology in GT, Forza Motorsport 6 will embrace that spirit of innovation as our most technically advanced racing simulation to date, offering a fun and realistic automotive experience for both car lovers and gamers,” said Dan Greenawalt, creative director at Turn 10 Studios. “We’re excited to unveil gameplay at E3 in June.”

Neither Microsoft nor Turn 10 Studios are talking release dates, but as this is the 10th anniversary of Forza, it would be foolish to think either company would let the year pass without a big release, so I’ll put my money on it arriving in time for the busy Holiday 2015 buying season. Hopefully we’ll hear more about it at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo that’s happening in June.

What do you guys think? Is it too soon for another Forza, or is the Xbox One in desperate need of another exclusive driving game?
