PC pre-orders for Grim Fandango’s remaster go live at GOG.com

At last year’s big E3 presentation, Sony’s Adam Boyes wowed audiences with the announcement that Grim Fandango, one of the most revered titles of 1990s-era adventure gaming, was being remastered for new platforms by its original creators.

No release date was given at the time, just a promise that Tim Schafer and gang were hard at work breathing new life into the game to make it ready for re-release.

Well, that day is now almost upon us. As of right now, the PC version of Grim Fandango Remastered can be exclusively pre-ordered from GOG.com for $14.99 (around R175), ahead of its official launch on the 27th of January for all platforms.

GOG has become the bastion of nostalgic gaming as it sells Great Old Games all neatly re-packaged for modern systems, and it makes sense that the pre-order of the re-release would surface there first.

Wondering what this new version will have? Well, it’s got updated graphics (better lighting, high-res textures), a completely remastered orchestral score and a new control scheme. For those who like such things, there are also two hours of behind-the-scenes developer commentary to listen to as you play.

Should you pre-order, you’ll get an exclusive wallpaper to commemorate your wise decision.

Lastly, if you didn’t play the game back in the day and are wondering what all the fuss is about, take a look at its Wikipedia page. Particularly the section that outlines all of the awards that it won that year, which includes 12 out of the 16 Game of the Year awards that it was nominated for.

Must be good, right?
