Google Maps now lets you share directions with friends and search restaurants by cuisine

Google Maps has just released its latest update for Android and iOS with a few features that will come in very handy especially if you frequently travel to different cities or countries.

Starting today, you’ll be able to search for and filter restaurants by their specific cuisine, so if you’re specifically looking for a sea food joint, you’ll be able to filter them out of the search results and see them pinned on the map.

A number of reports have posted screenshots revealing that Google has also added the ability to can easily share step-by-step directions to any of your friends or contacts via SMS or any other app, but the feature doesn’t appear on the list of updates on either Google Play or iTunes and wasn’t available on the Android app when we searched for it.

Google Maps has made a few new features separately available for Android and iOS respectively at the moment, if you’re using Android, you can see all your Google contacts when searching for addresses.

If you’re an iOS user, you can access the new weather information tool that shows you forecasts for towns and cities around the world, you also have the ability to drop pins on a map for both your starting point and destination in directions and navigation and you can add directions (including for public transport) to your Google calendar.

Get the updated Google Maps for Android on Google Play or for iOS through the iTunes app store.
